Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) (Commercial Dance) is a full time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks for two years. The units are bundled to provide the student with an in depth study in their speciality (either Commercial Dance or Musical Theatre), to extend and challenge the student in their chosen field and equip the artists with necessary skills for independent performers in a competitive industry.  This course includes a strong, specialised training with a variety of local and interstate trainers, including group and private tutoring. Students will have the opportunity to train in current commercial trends and experience a wide field of performance and practical opportunities. The Advanced Diploma runs in three school terms of training with every term having an intensive period of interstate trainers and assessments over two years. The last term pf each year is dedicated to a professional showcase of the student’s work attracting agents and training institutions from all around Australia.

***Extra times are required during performance periods

Musical Theatre Majors will have a strong all round focus paying particular details to musical theatre specialisation. These specialisation units includes musical theatre, acting repertoire, monologues/duologues, technical singing, performance practical, scene to song, major musicals in both years of study, song repertoire,  music and aural training, 

Auditions

Admission Requirements

 

Candidate to prepare solo pieces that meets the following criteria:

  • 1 Monologue (Copy of monologue to be submitted to panel)

  • 2 x CONTRASTING Musical Theatre Vocal solo

  • Not to exceed 3 minutes each

  • Backing track to be instrumental only (no backing vocals)

  • Interview

  • Group Dance Call 

  • Minimum Year 11 at course commencement.  

  • Music to be supplied on a device with AUX cord connection capabilities or a USB)

  • A further range and vocal check may occur

 

Note: Applicants are not expected to be an expert in all genres; however for this course a high standard of technique and performance is expected. The audition will assess technical ability, and candidates will be asked to adapt, to listen, to commit and attempt various disciplines in Performing Arts. The audition panel will be looking for talent, potential and passion.  Pieces will be assessed on both technique and performance.  Questions regarding training and experience will be asked in the audition. Candidates will be assessed in all disciplines.

Dance Majors will have a strong all round focus paying particular details to commercial jazz dance and trends. The specialisation units include  jazz, classical, tap, hip hop, acrobatics, contemporary, choreography and Allied studies. As well as their dance units students study acting, and vocals to open their career options and increase employment opportunities in the future.

  • 2 solos in chosen genre.

  • Not to exceed 2 minutes each

  • Interview

  • Group Singing Call 

  • Minimum Year 11 at course commencement

  • Music to be supplied on a device with AUX cord connection capabilities or a USB)

Note: Applicants are not expected to be an expert in all genres; however for this course a high standard of technique is expected in a minimum of two genres.
