CUA40513 Certificate IV in Musical Theatre

Certificate IV in Musical Theatre is a full time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks. The units are bundled to provide the student with an all-round knowledge of performing arts producing a triple threat in musical theatre. Students will have the opportunity to train in current industry trends and experience a wide field of performance opportunities. Musical Theatre majors will have a strong focus on acting, and vocal techniques along with selected dance genres and artist self-development.

Musical Theatre Ensemble, Technical Singing, Performance Practical, Scene to Song, Career, Monologue, Nutrition, and Conditioning, Acting and Singing Ensemble, Audition Technique, Aural Music skills, Jazz , Classical Ballet, Tap and  Partnering 


Admission Requirements


Candidate to prepare one solo piece that meets the following criteria:


  • 1 Monologue (Not to exceed 3 minutes, Copy of monologue to be submitted to panel)

  • 1 x Musical Theatre Vocal solo (Not to exceed 3 minutes, Backing track to be instrumental only (no backing vocals) supplied on a device with AUX cord connection capabilities)

  • Interview

  • Group Dance Call 

  • Minimum Year 10 at course commencement.                                                        *Applicants may be asked to sing a second song from their repertoire; and may spend time with Head of vocals for range and technical assessment.


Note: You are not expected to be an expert in all genres. This audition is to assess your ability to adapt, to listen, to commit and attempt various disciplines in Performing Arts. It is desired that the candidate shows a talent and ability in at least two genres. The audition panel will be looking for talent, potential and passion. Pieces will be assessed on both technique and performance. Questions regarding training and experience will be asked in the audition. Call backs will be conducted for candidates in a streaming purpose to assess abilities in all areas and their fit for the course. Dancing is a positive.
